Bjørg Vikås (born 1961)
In the life story interview conducted by Skeivt arkiv, Bjørg Vikås shares memories of growing up in Vågstranda, Møre og Romsdal. She also recounts how she ended up in Bergen in the early 1980s and became a member of the women's group (formerly known as Frøkenstiftelsen). Initially independent, the group joined DNF-48 in 1988, becoming the organization’s first all-women board.
Vikås was also a member of the Bergen Contact Committee and part of the telephone group from 1987 for ten years. The helpline operated one evening a week for two hours, always staffed by one woman and one man, and they typically responded to two calls per evening.
In the video excerpt below, Bjørg Vikås talks about what it was like to go on a date after placing a personal ad for the first time—an experience that also connected her with Bergen’s lesbian community.
